9/17/2023 1:34:00 PM

BOISE, Idaho. – The George Fox men's tennis team finished play on day three at the Dar Walters Invite hosted by Boise State. Teams were vying for fifth and ninth place on Sunday.

How it Happened
The Bruins team of Hunter Fujimor and Zach Moore played in the consolation draw final for ninth place against Idaho State. After dropping the doubles match by a score of 6-1, the two headed into their singles matches. Fujimori grabbed some points against his opponent before losing the match, 6-2, 6-3. After yesterday's win, Moore looked to do the same on Sunday. Moore kept it close with Fujita in the first set, 6-4, and could not grab the win in the second set, 6-2.

In the day's second match, the Fox duo of Vahag Pashayan and Lars Schmassman faced off against Idaho. The Bruins won the doubles match, 6-2, before losing the two singles matches due to Pashayan retiring and Schmassman needing a walkover.

In the day's final match and playing for fifth place, Eli Mizerski and Nanase Ebisu against Boise State. Mizerski and Ebisu jumped out to the lead after winning easily in doubles, 6-1. The two would stay close in singles; Mizerski lost to Burger, 6-4, 6-3. Ebisu forced both sets to go for the extra games before losing, 7-5, 7-5.

Coach's Thoughts
"I thought the doubles was very strong to finish out the tournament," said Bruins head coach Jeff Cero, "Singles was a bit sloppy, and too up and down, but thought guys competed hard. Overall, it was a great weekend of development, and now we are locked in on ITA Regionals this week."

What It Means
The Bruins head on the road again to Walla Wall, Wash. for the ITA Northwest Regional Championship, with the first matches starting on Friday. The match times are TBD.
