WHITTIER, Calif. — After a scoreless first half, two goals in the second half from the Whittier Poets dealt the George Fox Men's soccer team a loss to open the road trip.
How It Happened
Looking to bag their first win of the year, the Bruins had to rely on their defense early in the first half to keep the game scoreless. Whittier came out swinging, keeping the ball around the net and collecting four shots in the first 25 minutes, though none found the back of the net thanks to the play of the Bruin back line and goalkeeper
Keoni Gavino.
In the second part of the half, Fox came on the offensive, collecting four shots of their own in a 10 minute span, including on frame by sophomore
Kellin Aguiar. At halftime, the game was knotted in a scoreless tie.
More defense kept the game scoreless for the first part of the second half. With just under 20 minutes left in the half, Kevin Bravo found the back of the net for Whittier after receiving an assist from Rowan Slater. 10 minutes later, the second Whittier goal found the back of the net, scored this time by Lawrence Dydell with an assist from Kevin Bravo. This ended the scoring for both sides, as the Bruins were not able to mount a comeback, resulting in a final score of 2-0 in favor of Whittier.

Coach's Thoughts

Paul Karver said, "We are growing and we will be ok, in the moment the growth is hard. All great things come on the other side of hard, we just need to get there."
