NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's soccer team secured a close 2-1 win over Lewis and Clark on Sunday afternoon, winning in dramatic fashion to improve to third in the Northwest Conference.
How It Happened
In the seventh minute of the first half, Lewis and Clark received a penalty kick and a chance to take the lead. Dylan Weinstein of Lewis and Clark took advantage of this opportunity – putting away a goal to go up 1-0 against George Fox. The Bruins didn't stay down for long, though, as junior
Eugene Peltier broke away and shot a low left goal adding to the scoreboard for George Fox in the 30th minute of the game. The score was 1-1 going into the second half of the game.
George Fox continued their fight in the second half, searching in vain for a second goal. The Pios loaded the box in the second half, with most of the period spent on George Fox's side of the field. Two Bruin goals, one from Peltier and one by
Joshua Chang, were wiped off due to offside calls. Two other shots — one from
Isaac Williams and one from
Kellin Aguiar — bouncing off the post. After two more shots on frame were barely saved by Lewis & Clark's goalie, it seemed as if the game was destined for a tie.
With one minute and 30 seconds remaining,
Isaac Williams became the hero with a goal to give Fox the last-minute victory. Williams' lower left side goal was assisted by
Kellin Aguiar. In total, the Bruins had 21 shots as opposed to Lewis and Clark's ten. Overall, the George Fox defense excelled at defending their goal and goalkeeper
Justin Huttinger had four saves.

Coach's Thoughts
"The emotions were there today in a very difficult game that turned on its head early," Bruin head coach
Paul Karver said, "Lewis & Clark are very difficult and well coached. We gave them an inch early and they took a mile. The lesson learned is tied to the belief from the guys that we were going to win the game, and that speaks to the culture of this group and how much they believe in one another, even in the hardest of times."
