Bruins Score Five on Second-Place Whitman

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox Men's soccer team secured a solid 5-1 win against Whitman on Saturday afternoon, improving in the Northwest Conference.

How It Happened
Right off the bat within the first five minutes of the first half, Whitman managed to score a goal. However, the Bruins stayed right on their heels as Eugene Peltier assisted Harrison Emert with an attack in low center, Emert shooting a goal and tying the score 1-1 only a minute later.

The two teams fought back and forth for a while, until eventually, Kellin Aguiar assisted a clean headder by Samuel Graves into the top left corner. Then, a little over twenty minutes later, Fox scored a goal by Conner Kong in the bottom left corner, and again, Kong caught traction on the ball and moved at lightning speed to make another shot, low left—the score of the period being 4-1.

Fox continued the strong battle, but neither team scored for a long time as they each struggled to keep possession over the ball. This went on until Kellin Aguiar gained control, scoring a goal in low center at the 77th minute mark. The Blues gave their efforts to put in one more goal before the period ended, but couldn't keep up with Fox. The final score overall was 5-1.

Top Performers
Conner Kong was the highest scoring player of the game with two goals. Eugene Peltier finished the game with two solid assists, and Kellin Aguiar with one assist and one goal. Finally, Harrison Emert and Samuel Graves had one goal each for the day.

Coach's Thoughts
"The guys continue to respond to adversity in positive ways. Going down early again today against a very well-coached Whitman team was not the plan, but the response was fantastic," said head coach Paul Karver. "Whitman asks very hard questions, especially in transition, and we were committed to performing in that phase of the game. We were also fortunate to have our local youth team at training, and then walk out with us during pregame. The guys didn't want to let them down"

What It Means
George Fox now has an overall record of 10-2-1 (6-2-1 NWC) for the season, while Whitman has an overall record of 8-2-2 (5-1-2 NWC).

What Happens Next
The Bruins will stay in their home field on Sunday October 20th at 12:00 pm to battle the Whitworth Pirates.
