Haima's Two Goals Lift Bruins Past Pioneers

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team won 3-1 at home today against conference rival Lewis and Clark.

How It Happened
Starting off in the first half of the game, George Fox player Liv Haima put away the first goal for the Bruins in the first seven minutes of the game. Haima's goal was assisted by senior Becca Kozak. However, the Pioneers retaliated in the 14th minute with Lewis and Clark's Juliette Miller finding the back of the net through some traffic. As the end of the half was closing in, Fox player Liv Haima put another goal away for the Bruins in the 44th minute.

The second half was steady and the Bruins were able to hold off the Pioneers. In the 88th minute of the game, Lindsay Kong sealed the deal for the Bruins with a third goal for the team. George Fox had a grand total of 21 shots against Lewis and Clark's 14 shots. Emily Robey had a great game having five saves and only one goal against. The George Fox defense held their own, only allowing one goal. 

Top Performers
Liv Haima had two goals on ten shots, Becca Kozak had two assists and three shots, and Lindsay Kong scored her first goal as a Bruin. Goalkeeper Emily Robey had five saves and only one goal against, as the Bruins defense defended their goal with a second-half shutout. 

Coach's thoughts
"Good team win today," said Bruins head coach Laura Scott. "I especially loved seeing our leaders get fired up and play with increased intensity. We played very well and closed the game out with some good plays - doing so has been key to our success." 

What It Means 
The Bruins now have an overall record of 5-5-2 and a NWC record of 2-4-2. The Lewis and Clark Pioneers now have an overall record of 4-6-2 and a NWC record of 2-5-1. 

What Comes Next
The Bruins are scheduled to play their next match on Saturday, October 19th on their home turf. They will be playing against the Whitman Blues and kickoff is set at 2:45 pm.
