NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought match 1-0 against Whitman today.
How It Happened
Today's storyline was the impressive goalie performances on both ends of the field. The Blues controlled the start of the game with a barrage of shots in the first five minutes. As the Bruins got settled in, they focused their energy on counter attacks and finding spaces of momentum amidst the Whitman pressures. Fox finished the half with eight shots compared to Whitman's 11.
Emily Robey stood tall, finishing the first half with four saves.Â
The second half showed a strategy shift by both squads. The Bruins came out blazing, pressing the Blues and keeping the ball in the attacking half. After about 15 minutes, the teams settled in, trading shots and attacking chances. The Blues broke the scoresheet in the 83rd minute when Virginia Hunt found the back of the net. The Bruins battled until the end of the game, but couldn't find an equalizer in the final seven minutes.Â

Coach's Thoughts
"The difference between second and ninth in the conference is super thin," said Bruins head coach
Laura Schott. "Every moment is big in a conference that tight, and outcomes really hinge on who course corrects quickly from mistakes and who doesn't. We didn't course correct today well enough today so we didn't earn points. Credit to Whitman, they are a good team and capitalized when it mattered most."
What It MeansÂ
The Bruins now have an overall record of 5-6-2 (2-5-2 NWC) and the Blues have a record of 7-4-2 (4-3-2 NWC).Â
