Fox Drops Tough Game Against Conference Leading Lutes

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team dropped a tough game at home against NWC leader Pacific Lutheran, 4-1.

How It Happened
George Fox fell behind early in the game after a Lutes goal in the sixth minute of play. The Bruin offense retaliated with two shots on goal in the next minute, though both were blocked.

Pacific Lutheran dominated possession for much of the half — stringing together five unanswered shots midway through the period. The Bruin backline held firm, however, as goalie Emily Robey saved all three shots on goal.

Fox broke through in the 32nd minute, when defender Willa Evans drove home a goal from near midfield. From here it was a tight contest for ball control, until the Lutes struck again in the 44th minute to go into the half ahead, 2-1.

The second half opened in similar fashion to the first, with the Lutes quickly scoring two more goals to extend their lead, 4-1. Fox's defense was impenetrable for the remainder of the game, though, with Robey making three more saves to keep the Lutes at bay despite being outshot 10-1. The Bruins' struggle to break through Pacific Lutheran's backline made it a struggle to mount a comeback, as Fox eventually dropped the game, 4-1.

Top Performers
Willa Evans led the way for the Bruins as the lone goal scorer, while Becca Kozak finished the game with three shots. Bruin goalkeeper Emily Robey was impressive in the goal, saving six shots.

Coach's Thoughts
"We had a hard time settling into our offense today," said Head Coach Laura Schott. "Credit to PLU - they've always been a good opponent. Looking forward to tomorrow."

What It Means
The Bruins fall to 4-4-1 on the season (1-3-1 NWC), while the Lutes improve to 5-1-3 (4-0-1 NWC).

What Happens Next
The Bruins will look to regain momentum in another home matchup against Puget Sound on October 6th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. at Austin Sports Complex.
