NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team faced tough competition against Puget Sound on Sunday, dropping the game, 1-3.
How It Happened
The Bruins came out fighting hard against the Loggers, with senior
Becca Kozak scoring a goal in the first ten minutes of the game. Kozak's goal was assisted by senior
Taylor Ho; Ho received a pass from the left-hand side of the field, then connected with Kozak splitting defenders with her pass. Kozak took a touch and completed a right footed shot into the upper-right side of the goal.Â
The Loggers responded to the Bruins goal 30 minutes later, with Leila Hausia-Haugen scoring in the 41st minute of the game. In the 44th minute the Logger, Hausia-Haugen put another one away — adding to their lead over the Bruins, 2-1 before half.Â
Puget Sound continued their attack, with Hausia-Haugen completing the hat trick with her third goal of the game in the 65th minutes. Regardless of the 3-1 loss, the Bruins fought hard, having eight overall shots and six saves from goalkeeper
Emily Robey.Â
Top Performers
Becca Kozak scored a goal and had two shots on goal.
Taylor Ho had an assist and one shot. Goalkeeper Emiley Robey had six saves.
Coach's Thoughts
"Playing the perennial top two teams in the conference in the same weekend year in and year out is a tall order," said Head Coach
Laura Schott. "I was proud of most of our weekend, but lapses cost us points. We are motivated to attack the next ten games of the season and play at Linfield on Friday."Â
