FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- The George Fox football season came to a close in Forest Grove, with the Bruins dropping the game, 11-39.
How It Happened
It didn't take long for the Boxers to get on the board, with Brody Bantolina cutting through the field for a 48-yard touchdown. Down seven early, Fox's offense countered quickly as
DeMontre Thomas II found
River Osen for a diving 33-yard catch. But after the offense stalled out and the ensuing field goal was blocked, the drive seemed to be lost.
Then,
Raiden Gonzales had the offensive play of the day for the Bruins — a forced fumble. As Pacific's Josiah Chaffin attempted to return the kick, Gonzales worked his way down the field, stonewalling Chaffin and stripping the ball away.
Silas Kincaid fell on the loose ball, giving the Bruins life at the seven-yard line. However, the Bruins' fortune was short-lived, as two plays later, an interception in the end zone ended the drive.
Another Pacific touchdown led to the only points of the half, as
Kiegan Schaan blocked the extra point, which
Austin Harrison returned 95 yards to the house. Down 2-13, the Bruins' luck took a turn for the worse as Thomas II was knocked out of the game midway through the second; he would not return. Without their quarterback, Fox failed to score for the remainder of the half, with the Boxers adding two field goals to extend their lead to 19-2.
The teams exchanged punts for the first four drives of the second half before the Boxers extended their lead to 31 thanks to back-to-back touchdown drives — one as the third drew to a close and one as the fourth began. Fox made sure not to go down without some fight, with WIlliam Moffitt helping the offense take advantage of a Boxer roughing the punter penalty, breaking off a 49-yard run before a two-yard touchdown.
Though they would give up one final touchdown in the waning minutes, Fox's field goal block team would step up once again, providing the Bruins with one final highlight of the 2024 season. Once again, Schaan blocked the ball, with
Nolan Martin returning the kick back for two additional points. The Bruin season came to a close with an
Ethan Bullock five-yard run as Pacific won the game, 39-11.
