NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox volleyball team ended their regular season with a 3-0 win over Lewis & Clark as they prep for the Northwest Conference tournament.
How It Happened
Fox struggled to begin strong as the Pioneers took a quick 6-1 lead. Down 7-13,
Jordan Hahn reacted quickly with a kill, followed by a kill by
Lexi Baer and
Allaire Gilder, starting a chain reaction for the Bruins. Eventually, Gilder tied up the game with a kill at 21-21; from there, Fox stepped up in a nail-biting finish, with
Kennedy Kibby ending the set on a service ace—the final score being 25-23.
The Bruins started the second set much stronger and kept control over the ball.
Addison Coulter scored the first point with a service ace, and Hahn kept them ahead with a kill at 4-2. Lewis & Clark tried to keep up but
Gracie Bearden kept them in their place with a kill—6-4.
Taylor DeKoning was on a roll with multiple kills in the middle of the set, while Gilder and Bearden made back-to-back kills, launching the score ahead 20-14. DeKoning was the last kill with the score at 24-16, and one point later, crushing the Pioneers.
In the final set, Fox kept their heads in the game—Bearden in the front lines with two kills right off the bat. Lewis & Clark was stuck for a spell as Gilder, Hahn, and Robertson made kills left and right.
Lexi Baer made two kills, making the score 14-7, while Bearden supported with another kill as well. The Bruins were up seven points when Dekoning made a kill from Kibby's flawless set. Robertson ended the game with a powerful kill—the final score being 25-14, leaving the Pioneers with a devastating loss.
Top Performances
Gracie Bearden was the top hitter of the game with 11 kills and 14 digs,
Addison Robertson had eight kills. Freshman
Jordan Hahn completed the game with an impressive seven kills and two digs, while
Allaire Gilder and
Lexi Baer had six kills and two digs each.Â
What It Means
The Bruins rose to a 10-6 NWC record — the first time that Fox has recorded back-to-back 10-win conference seasons since 2001-02 — and 14-11 overall mark, while Lewis and Clark finished their year with an 0-23 (0-16 NWC). With the win, Fox has qualified for the fourth seed in the NWC Tournament.

Fox will play number one Whitworth at the NWC tournament on Friday November 15th. The start times are to be determined.
