PORTLAND, Ore. -- The George Fox women's basketball team continued their stellar run of form on the road against the Warner Pacific Knights, putting together an electric final period to take the win, 56-47.
How It Happened
The game opened in a tight contest, as George Fox battled to keep pace with Warner Pacific.
Alyssa Wells provided an early spark with a three point jump shot, while
Hanne Hopkins added a free throw and a key bucket to keep the Bruins within striking distance of the Knights. Despite trading baskets back and forth for much of the period, the Bruins trailed by four at the end of the quarter, 10-14.
George Fox continued to fight for control in the second period, going down seven points early after a strong offensive push from the Knights. A layup by Wells and two free throws from
Alexa Borter energized the offense, however, and the Bruins went on a seven point run to level the scores. Borter would round out the period with two more layups, sending Fox into halftime with the lead, 27-23.Â
The game returned to a tense battle in the third quarter, with neither team able to pull more than a few points ahead. The Knights opened with a six point run that saw them regain the lead, but it evaporated almost immediately after buckets from
Mia Skoro and
Kylie Ritter. Another layup by Hopkins saw Fox move ahead by three with just over a minute left in the quarter, before a final minute scoring flurry from the Knights saw them take a one shot lead into the final period.
The fourth quarter started off tense, before a three pointer from Wells fired up the Bruins, who never looked back. Borter would follow with a layup to extend the lead to three, and Fox would hold the Knights to just four points in the final seven minutes of play. The Bruins' strong finish was punctuated by two jump shots from Hopkins and four straight free throws — Fox outscoring the Knights by 10 in the final period to claim their fourth road win of the season, 56-47.
