FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The George Fox women's tennis team beat fellow Northwest Conference team, the Pacific Boxers, in a non-conference match against the, 5-4.
How It Happened
Kalli Wiker and
Riley Bobkiewicz knew they had a challenge ahead of them in their doubles match against one of the top doubles teams in the conference, Sydnie Binder and Cassidy Binder. The two were able to get a couple of games but could not beat the Binder sisters. The Bruins would win the next two doubles matches when
Cassey Hitch and
Kylie Hull won their number two match, 8-3. Then
Sophie Denham and
Shanah Denham teamed up to defeat Mia Yamaguchi and Morgan Wagoner, 8-4.
The Bruins headed into their singles matches with a 2-1 lead over the Boxers. In the number one match,
Kalli Wiker grabbed two games in the first set but could not beat her opponent, losing 6-2 and 6-0.
Riley Bobkiewicz saw a similar fate, losing, 6-2, 6-1. On court six,
Cassey Hitch would tie the score up 3-3 when she won her match easily, 6-2, 6-1.
Kylie Hull would find herself in a tight match against Sofia Mazzola. Hull would be able to get the first set win after coming from behind, 5-4, to win the set, 7-5. She would come out firing to grab the second set 6-2, putting Fox ahead in the overall score 4-3. In the number three spot,
Elizabeth Cook defeated her opponent, 6-3, 6-1, securing the Bruins the overall win. In the longest match of the day, lasting over three hours,
Shanah Denham went back and forth, forcing her opponent to win extra games in each set. In the end Denham lost both sets, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5).

What Comes Next
The Bruins have their first home match of 2024 on Friday, February 16th, when they host non-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz. The match is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at the Multi-Use Facility.
