WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- The George Fox men's basketball team was unable to pull off a late comeback against the Whitman Blues in a high scoring affair on Friday night, eventually dropping the game, 95-77.
How It Happened
George Fox fell behind early in the game, but were able to pull back within striking distance after a six point run by
Jett Briceno,
Samuel Stewart IV and
Nick Greenwood.
Momo Stokes and
Charlie Powers knocked down treys shortly after to give the Bruins the lead following 12 minutes of play. Whitman countered quickly, however, nailing five triples in the final five minutes of the period to send George Fox into halftime behind, 32-49.
The Bruins were able to get plenty of shots away to open the second half, but initially struggled to find the net. The momentum shifted midway through the period, though, as Fox was able to take advantage of a stream of Whitman fouls; with six minutes remaining, the Bruins were back within seven points thanks to a five-point run by
James Moore.Â
Whitman was once again able to retaliate immediately, however, going on an 11-point run to hold off the Bruins and pick up the win, 95-77.
Top Performers
James Moore led the Bruins offensively, dropping 19 points after going 7-15 from the floor.
Samuel Stewart IV and
Charlie Powers also notched double digit games, finishing with 13 and 10, respectively.Â
Defensively,
Nick Greenwood,
Aiden Price and
Samuel Stewart IV all collected two steals, while
James Moore and
Jett Briceno each picked up a block.
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 14-8 overall (7-6 NWC), while the Blues improve to 16-6 (10-3 NWC).
