PORTLAND, Ore. – The George Fox men's tennis team picked up a win in their first Northwest Conference match of the year, beating the Lewis & Clark Pioneers 8-1.
How It Happened
In doubles,
Vahag Pashayan and
Lars Schmassmann fought valiantly but narrowly lost to the Pios number one doubles team by a score of 8-7 (7-2).
Hunter Fujimori and
Eli Mizerski dominated in the number two slot, winning with a score of 8-2. On court three,
Zach Moore and
Ikuho Ebisu secured the sweep for the Bruins after defeating Landon Cronin and Matt Chio, 8-3.
Transitioning into singles,
Eli Mizerski was playing in the number one spot for Fox. Mizerski won his match, 6-3, 6-1.
Vahag Pashayan continued the momentum with a victory in his match, winning, 6-4, 6-1.
Hunter Fujimori helped the Bruins pick up another win after defeating Matt Chio with a score of 6-2, 6-4. On court four,
Lars Schmassmann outplayed his opponent, winning the first set 6-4 and sweeping the second set 6-0.
Jackson Whittaker secured another point for Fox by defeating Wade McDermott with a score of 7-5, 6-1. Freshman
River Apatu found himself in a battle with Landon Cronin before winning, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.

"Today we brought focus, energy, and a strong drive to win," said
Mitchell Miyashiro, "And it showed in the way we played throughout the line-up. This was a great start to our conference matches."

The Bruins are now 2-2 (1-0 NWC), with another Northwest Conference match-up tomorrow at home against the Linfield Wildcats. That match is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
