HILTON HEAD, S.C., – The George Fox women's tennis team started their spring break trip to South Carolina on Thursday, beating the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) 7-2.
How it Happened
The Bruins started off well in doubles, winning all three matches. Fox switched up the doubles teams against the Flames.
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Kylie Hull won 8-5 in the number one slot. Two juniors teamed up for the number two spot.
Arianna Rader and
Kalli Wiker secured the win, 8-3. The number three team needed over thirty minutes to take down their opponents, 8-2.
In singles,
Abigail Bond came out with a force, winning her match in the number six spot in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. On court five,
Sophie Denham made quick work of her opponent, winning her match 6-0, 6-1. The third Bruin to win was
Cassey Hitch from the number four spot. Hitch won her match, 6-1, 6-2.
Riley Bobkiewicz was the final GFU player to win her match, 6-3, 6-1. Wiker and Rader were the two Bruins that lost their singles matches. Wiker took on the challenge from the top singles player for the Flames, losing, 6-3, 6-4. Rader came out strong, winning the first set 6-1 before losing in extra sets, in the second set, 7-5. It came down to a third-set tiebreake; Raderr lost 10-6.
What Comes Next
The Bruins stay in South Carolina to play four more non-conference matches. The next will be on Friday, March 22nd, when Fox will play No. 39, Carleton Knights. The match will start at 6:00 a.m. PT.
