TACOMA, Wash. – Racking up 15 hits and 12 RBIs, the George Fox baseball team beat the Puget Sound Loggers, 12-7, en route to winning the weekend series.
How It Happened
The Bruins put pressure on the Loggers right away; after a hit-by-pitch and an error put
Jared Miller and
Noah Meffert on first and second,
Carson Coulter hit a two-RBI double to give Fox an early 2-0 lead.
Mason Eastman singled in the next at-bat to keep the train moving, and
Jonathan Stone homered — his second in as many days — to put Fox up, 5-0 after one inning.
GFU would tack on another run in the second, this time with a Coulter sacrifice fly, making the lead 6-0. In the third the Bruins would score three more runs, using two-out doubles from Miller and
Jeremy Sangalang to drive in the runs. After just three innings, the Bruins were up 9-0. Starter
Ben Wills gave up just two hits in the first three frames, and wouldn't give up a run until the fourth, when he gave up a run on a double.
Up eight, the Bruins didn't show any signs of slowing down, tacking on a pair of runs in the top half of the fifth to extend the lead to ten runs, 11-1.. The sixth inning boded well for the Loggers, who scored five runs on seven hits — however, the Bruins were able to get out of a bases-loaded jam at the end of the inning, stopping the Loggers from getting closer than five runs. The sixth inning ended with Fox still up big, 11-6.
Fox scored a final run in the top of the seventh, this time from a pinch-hit RBI single from
Mason Gronewald. The Loggers responded with a solo homer, making the score 12-7 with three innings to go.
Braeden Munger threw a scoreless eighth inning, and
Ryder Edwards finished the game on the bump with a scoreless ninth inning to give the Bruins the 12-7 victory and a series win for the weekend.
