PASADENA, Calif., – In their eighth straight match against top 30 teams, the George Fox men's tennis team lost to the Caltech Beavers, 5-4. The Bruins got their four points off of two doubles wins and singles wins.
How It Happened
In doubles,
Eli Mizerski and
Lars Schmassmann grabbed an early point for the Bruins, winning the number two doubles match 8-4.
Zach Moore and
Hunter Fujimori later grabbed a second point for Fox after winning number three doubles 8-6. The final doubles match was a tight one.
Vahag Pashayan and
Nanase Ebisu battled tightly with the 20th doubles team in the nation, narrowly losing 8-6. For the second day in a row, the Bruins headed into singles with a one point lead.
The first two singles matches to finish were those playing in the number five and six positions.
Alle Banna could not secure the win, losing, 6-0, 6-1.
Nanase Ebisu battled against Tejas Ram, staying close, but could not win, 6-4, 6-3. Fox found themselves in another tight contest.
Lars Schmassmann lost his match, 6-4, 6-4. In the number three spot,
Hunter Fujimori secured a point for the Bruins after winning his match, 6-3, 6-4.
Vahag Pashayan was in a back and forth match, losing the first set, 6-2. Pashayan controlled the second set winning, 6-1, but lost the third set, 6-2. The final match to finish was number one singles.
Eli Mizerski lost the first set, 7-5, but found his rhythm in the second set, where he dominated his opponent, winning, 6-1. Mizerski continued to dominate, winning the tiebreaker, 10-4.
What's Next
The Bruins are now 4-8, and the Beavers improved to 6-4 on the year. George Fox will return to the court tomorrow to play No. 12 Gustavus Adolphus again. A rematch from earlier in March, where George Fox narrowly lost 4-3. The match will be played at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 10:00 a.m.
