COLUMBUS, Ohio - The George Fox Women's Lacrosse team was unable to bounce back after a loss on Monday, losing a close game to Capital, 19-17.
How It Happened
The Bruins got off to a hot start, dropping the first two points of the game before Capital was able to score.
Marena Tharpe scored first with an assist from
Ava Bluhm, and
Sasha Thayer added a second point after an assist from
Olivia Geyling. Tharpe responded to a Capital point with her second of the day, with
Sasha Thayer getting another assist. After exchanging blows throughout the quarter,
Olivia Geyling ended the quarter with the Bruins eighth point to extend the Bruins lead to 8-6.
Tharpe scored the first two goals of the second quarter, continuing her great play. Though Capital evened the score at 10 apiece later in the quarter,
Ava Bluhm and Tharpe tagged on two big points at the end of the quarter to give the Bruins a one-point lead into the second half after being outscored 5-4 in the second quarter.
The Bruins once again struck first to begin the second half, with Tharpe continuing her hot play by scoring the first point of the half.
Olivia Geyling and
Ava Bluhm followed hot on Tharpe's heels, contributing goals of their own to extend the Bruins lead to 15-11 with 12 minutes left in the quarter. The Bruins defense was unable to stop a Capital hot streak. A late goal by
Ava Bluhm to end the quarter put the Bruins within two goals of the Comets.
Each team scored only one goal in the final quarter. Both goals were scored within the first two minutes of the quarter, with
Olivia Geyling scoring the Bruins lone tally. This led to a final score of 17-19 in favor of Capital.
Top Performers
Marena Tharpe led the Bruins offense with seven goals, while
Ava Bluhm and
Olivia Geyling each contributed four as well. Geyling and
Sasha Thayer also contributed two assists to the Bruins offensive effort. On defense,
Emma Webb recorded 11 saves.
