NEWBERG, Ore - The George Fox women's lacrosse team recovered from a slow start, putting together a 12-1 run in the second half of a midweek matchup against rival Linfield, cruising to a dominant win, 17-5.
How It Happened
It took
Carleigh DeLapp just a minute and a half to open the scoring for George Fox, but despite outshooting Linfield 11-2 in the period, the Bruins struggled to convert their shots to goals.
Marena Tharpe scored again for Fox in the eighth minute of play, but Linfield tacked on two goals of their own, and the two teams were tied, 2-2, at the end of the quarter.
Both offenses also struggled to find the net early in the second period, before George Fox dropped three goals in four minutes — two from
Lana Davis and one from
Olivia Geyling — to take the lead, 5-2. Linfield retaliated immediately to slow Fox's momentum, scoring two goals in the final two minutes to narrow the gap to just one, 5-4.
The Bruins came alive in the second half, however, going on a 12-1 run to end the game. DeLapp, Tharpe and
Morgan Maxfield opened the floodgates in the third quarter with three unanswered goals, before the offensive exploded in the final period to outshoot the Wildcats, 15-3, and outscore their opponent, 9-1.
Ava Bluhm led the charge, with all three of her goals coming in the last quarter alone. Bluhm, Davis, and
Morgan Maxfield all scored multiple goals in the period en route to a convincing win, 17-5.
