NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox baseball team picked up their third win of the weekend over the Vassar College Brewers, winning 6-2.
How It Happened
Starter
Ben Wills got out of a jam in the first inning, getting a huge strikeout with a runner in scoring position to end the inning and keep the game scoreless. Following the strikeout, the senior would go on a tear, retiring 10 straight batters; Wills would finish with five innings, giving up two runs and striking out four.
The Bruins got on the board first in the fourth after both teams had been held scoreless through the first three innings. The one run came with the bases with one out as
Shane McClendon put the ball in play. The Brewers tried to turn a double play, but McClendon beat out the throw to first, allowing Jermey Sangalang to score the first run of the game. Vassar responded in the top of the fifth inning, putting up two runs to take the lead from the Bruins, 2-1. Fox came right back, though, scoring a run in the bottom half of the same inning with the Bases loaded again, this time from a
Jeremy Sangalang RBI single.
The game remained tied at two going into the seventh before the Bruins offense was able to cash in on base runners for the first time in the game.
Mason Eastman continued his hot streak with a double to start the inning, followed by
Evan Balingit reaching first on a Brewers' error. Sangalang walked on four pitches to load the bases again. Ian Synder drew a walk with the bases full, scoring Eastman and bringing up
Bleu Ellis, who scored Balingit from third on a fielder's choice, pushing the lead to 4-2. With a runner on first and third with two outs, McClendon hit an RBI double to score both runners, extending the lead to 6-2.
Ryder Edwards finished out the day for Fox on the mound, starting out with 15 straight strikes and ending the game with a strikeout looking, holding the Brewers to two runs for the third straight game in Fox's 6-2 victory.

Shane McClendon led the team in RBIs with three, picking up a double on the day.
Ben Wills went five innings with four strikeouts, while
Spencer Simon picked up his first career win for the Bruins on the mound.
What It Means
The Bruins improves to 9-5 (1-2 NWC) on the year after winning their fourth game in a row. Vassar is now 1-4.
