FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The George Fox men's tennis team won their sixth Northwest Conference match when they beat the Boxers in Forest Grove on Saturday. After the 7-2 win the Bruins still sit in first place in conference, with one more dual match to play.
How It Happened
In doubles play the Bruins found themselves in multiple close matches, with the two wins coming by the score of 8-5.
Vahag Pashayan teamed up with
Nanase Ebisu and
Zach Moore and
Hunter Fujimori remained partners, the number one and three teams won their matches. In number two doubles,
Lars Schmassmann and
Eli Mizerski lost their matchup, 8-3.
Fox held the lead heading into singles play, and the Bruins would not let that lead slip away, winning five out of the six singles matches.
Eli Mizerski cruised to a, 6-2, 6-4, victory, while
Hunter Fujimori staged a comeback after losing the first set, winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-1.
Lars Schmassmann,
River Apatu, and
Ikuho Ebisu dominated their matches, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1, 6-1, respectively.
Zach Moore was in a tightly contested match, losing the first set 6-4, before coming back to win tie the match after winning the second set, 6-4. Unfortunately, could not secure the win, losing in the tiebreaker.
What's Next
The Bruins improve to 8-9, (6-0 NWC), and the Boxers were handed their second conference loss and are now 6-10, (4-2 NWC) on the year. George Fox will head home to play their final regular season match and celebrate their seniors against the Willamette Bearcats on Sunday. Fox will look to secure the Northwest Conference title with a win against the Bearcats. The match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
