NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox men's tennis team won their sixth Northwest Conference match when they beat the Boxers in Forest Grove on Saturday. After the 7-2 win the Bruins still sit in first place in conference, with one more dual match to play.
How It Happened
George Fox made quick work of the Bearcats in doubles play, with all matches finishing in under 45 minutes. The closest match was on court one,
Vahag Pashayan and
Nanase Ebisu secured their win, 8-4.
Eli Mizerski and
Lars Schmassmann won easily in the number two spot, sweeping Willamette, 8-0. On court three,
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore handed the Bearcats their third loss of the day, winning, 8-2.
In singles play, two individuals were able to secure their wins while only giving up two games.
Lars Schmassmann won, 6-2, 6-0, from the number two spot and
Ikuho Ebisu won by the same score from the number six spot. Both
Nanase Ebisu and
River Apatu only lost one set, winning 6-0, 6-1, and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Zach Moore was the lone Bruin to sweep their match, winning, 6-0. 6-0. On court one,
Hunter Fujimori found himself in a battle against sixth year Senior, Andrew Kabacy. Fujimori narrowly lost the first set, 7-5, before coming back to win the second set 6-4. The tiebreaker went back and forth, but Fujimori ultimately fell to Kabacy.
What's Next
The Bruins improve to 8-9 and a perfect 7-0 in Northwest Conference play, while the Bearcats fall to 15-0 (0-7 NWC). George Fox will host the NWC tournament next weekend. Matches are set to begin on Saturday, and times are TBA.
