NEWBERG, Ore. -- In a rematch of the prior three Northwest Conference Tournament Finals took place in the NWC Semifinal, the George Fox men's tennis team took down Pacific, 5-0, in a dominant performance from start to finish.
How It Happened
Unlike the 2024 championship, where the Bruins needed a massive comeback to win all three doubles matches, Fox made quick work of the Boxers in initial sets. The number one team of
Vahag Pashayan and
Nanase Ebisu was the closest doubles match of the day, with the duo taking down Jonathan Nguyen and Dawson Hose, 8-4. Both the teams of
Lars Schmassmann and
Eli Mizerski as well as
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore won their matches, 8-2, to give the Bruins a massive advantage heading to singles.
Needing just two wins to clinch a trip to their fourth consecutive NWC Championship, Fox got just that, dominating in every match. Pashayan and Ebisu picked up the victories, with Pashayan taking down Nguyen on court two, 6-1, 6-2, and Ebisu beating Ryley Chang, 6-1, 6-0. Though Mizerski, Fujimori, Schmassmann, and Ali Banna did not get a chance to finish their matches, all four of the Bruins had won their first set, with all but one holding the Boxers to one set or fewer. When all was said and done, Fox had blanked Pacific for the first time since 2019.
What It Means
The Bruins clinch their fourth consecutive NWC Title game, where they will face the winner of the 2-3 match of Whitman and Lewis & Clark.
