NEWBERG, Ore. -- For the fourth straight season, the George Fox men's tennis team has clinched a trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 5-1 win over the Whitman Blues
How It Happened
All three doubles matches went down to the wire, with the Bruins eking out two of the matches to take a lead into singles play. On court one,
Vahag Pashayan and
Nanase Ebisu fell behind early, trailing Artem Manov and Charles Rush, 3-6; from there, the duo dominated, winning the next five sets to win the match, 8-6.
On courts two and three, the matches stretched to their limit. Both the duos of
Lars Schmassmann and
Eli Mizerski, as well as
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore had their matches going into a the final games in a tiebreaker set, with Schmassmann and Mizerski winning their tiebreaker, 9-7, and Fujimori and Moore falling, 7-9. Still, the wins gave Fox the advantage headed to singles.
Needing three wins to win the championship, the Bruins got just that, with Ebisu making quick work of Diego Guzman, 6-1, 6-0, and Fujimori taking down Manov, 6-2, 6-2. After winning his first set, 6-1,
Eli Mizerski warded off Cameron Yang to win the second, 7-5, to clinch the Bruins their fourth straight NWC Tournament Champion.

"I'm so proud of the team," Bruin coach
Mitchell Miyashiro, "They fought through so much adversity this season and managed to rise up from it. Led by the captains' encouragement they worked hard to improve throughout the season. We plan to keep moving forward leading into regionals."
