CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The George Fox men's tennis team faced tough competition in their second round loss in the NCAA tournament to No. 19 Redlands, 5-0.
How It Happened
The Bruins faced a battle during doubles play. On court two,
Eli Mizerski and
Lars Schmassmann lost 8-1. In the number three spot,
Hunter Fujimori and
Zach Moore fought tightly against their opponents but lost 8-3. The closest match was on court one, where
Vahag Pashayan and
Nanase Ebisu paired up against the No. 14-ranked doubles team from Redlands. Ultimately, the Bruins lost the match 8-4.
Fox found themselves with a hill to climb heading into the singles matches, knowing they needed to win five of the six matches. The Bruins lost the first set on all courts other than court six, where
Nanase Ebisu won 6-3. However, the team made a strong comeback in the second sets across the various courts, with
Hunter Fujimori picking up a second set win, 6-4,
Eli Mizerski winning, 6-2, and
Lars Schmassmann battling at 5-5 before their matches were ended. Although
Vahag Pashayan and
Alle Banna could not hold off the Bulldogs, losing their matches 6-3, 6-3, and 6-1, 6-4, respectively.
