St. Louis, Mo. -- The George Fox men's tennis team sent one individual to the NCAA Individual Championships in St. Louis, Missouri.
Sophomore
Eli Mizerski made his NCAA Individual Championships debut in the singles round of 32, defeating the University of Chicago's number one player Emil Grantcharov. Grantcharov, a top-ranked player, was ranked as the number six singles player in the nation and was coming off a Division III team national championship. Mizerski started the match well, winning the first set 6-0. Grantcharov came back to win the second set, 6-3, to force a third and deciding set. In a back and forth set, Mizerski came out on top with a 7-5 set win.
Mizerski had to quickly regroup before he was set to play his next opponent, Amherst's Andreas Sillaste. Sillaste was another top-20 singles player, and Mizerski was unable to find the success he had earlier in the day. Unfortunately, Mizerski lost the round of 16 match, 6-4, 6-1.
The Bruins will be back out on the court in the fall of 2024.
