NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox women's tennis team celebrated their two seniors on Saturday. Fox was able to secure the win, 6-3, distancing itself from third-place Pacific.
How it Happened
The Bruins looked to pick up multiple points from doubles play. In number one singles,
Riley Bobkiewicz and
Kalli Wiker faced the top two Boxers players. The duo was unable to secure the win, losing 8-4. On court two, the Bruin duo of
Cassey Hitch and
Kylie Hull won 8-4 over their opponents. In the number three spot,
Arianna Rader and
Shanah Denham won their match easily, 8-1.
George Fox lost just two matches, number one and two singles.
Kalli Wiker lost her match 6-3, 6-1, and
Riley Bobkiewicz lost her match 6-4, 6-0. The two Fox seniors grabbed wins in their matches.
Elizabeth Cook won her match 6-4, 6-2. Fellow senior
Kylie Hull won her first set, 6-4, before losing the second set, 6-0. In the third and deciding set, Hull won 6-2.
Arianna Rader found herself fighting against Mia Yamaguchi. Rader jumped out to the lead after winning the first set, 6-3. Rader then narrowly lost the second set, 7-5, but she was able to bounce back, winning the tiebreaker 10-4.
Shanah Denham cruised past her opponent in number six singles, winning, 6-1, 6-1.
What It Means
George Fox improves to 12-6, NWC (5-1), and the Boxers drops to 6-8 (NWC 3-3). The Bruins will have one more regular season match before the conference tournament on Sunday when they travel to Salem, Oregon, to play Willamette. The matches are set to begin at 11:00 AM.
