George Fox Football Reveals 2024 Schedule

4/16/2024 12:43:00 PM

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Following a resurgence at the end of 2023, the 2024 George Fox football schedule is here, with five home games and several competitive away matchups on tap for the coming season.

"Our football coaches and players are very excited about the upcoming 2024 season," Bruin head coach Chris Casey said, "All in our program have been, are currently, and will continue, putting in great time and effort to prepare for this upcoming campaign."

The Bruins will kick their season off with a road contest against Redlands on Sept. 7 — the lone nonconference away game Fox will play in 2024. The Bulldogs and Bruins have played each other seven times since the return of the George Fox football program in 2014, with the Bruins taking the last contest in Newberg in 2022, 38-31.

From there, Fox will play in their second Oregon Cup game, the four-year competition between four of the Oregon-based Northwest Conference football teams. The Bruins, who defeated Pacific on the road in their first matchup, will face Willamette on Sept. 14. The Bearcats dropped their previous Oregon Cup matchup against Lewis & Clark, 38-7.

Fox will look for revenge in their final nonconference game of the season as they welcome Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to Stoffer Family Stadium. The Bruins fell to the Stags, 7-16, on a last-second field goal the year prior, and will seek to avenge the loss as they host the Stags for the first time in program history.

Following that Sept. 21 game, the Bruins won't play at home again for two weeks, with a bye week and road game at Lewis & Clark. Oct. 12 will be a homecoming contest against the Puget Sound Loggers, while the following Oct. 19 game against the Linfield WIldcats will be Family Weekend.

Thanks to four home matchups in their first six events, Fox will be on the road for the three of the final four games, facing Willamette on Oct. 26, Pacific Lutheran on Nov. 2, and Pacific on Nov. 16. The final four games were a key turning point in the season for the Bruins in 2023, as they finished the year strong with a 3-1 record.

The lone home game in November will be against defending NWC Champion Whitworth. The Pirates advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament, and finished the year 10-1. Fox played the Pirates tougher than any team in the conference in 2024 excluding Linfield, leading late in the game and falling, 13-24. The Bruins are 2-1 in their last three contests against the pirates.

All NWC games this season are scheduled with a tentative kickoff time of 1:30 pm. However, as Bruin football enters its second season being broadcasted on KCRW, kickoff times are subject to change to accommodate television audiences. Be sure to check the George Fox Athletics website to ensure that no start time adjustments have been made.

"On behalf of our entire program, a huge thank you," Casey said of the fan support the team has received over the season, "and we look forward to seeing you at Stoffer Family Stadium and/or at our away games during the 2024 season."

Stay tuned for more updates about season ticket sales and package renewals, scheduled to be released in the coming weeks.
