NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox baseball team couldn't overcome a slow start on the mound in their non-conference matchup against the Linfield Wildcats, dropping the game, 11-2.
How It Happened
The Wildcats were explosive early in the game, scoring seven runs from eight hits in the first two innings. Fox recorded three hits of their own in those innings, but failed to bring any runners home, until an RBI double from
Noah Meffert scored
Evan Balingit in the bottom of the third.
Linfield would tack on two more runs over the next four innings to extend their lead, 9-1, while holding the Bruins to no further hits until the bottom of the seventh.
The Bruins would score their final run of the game in the seventh inning, when singles from
Ty Davis and
Isaac Snyder were followed by an RBI groundout from
Jared Miller.
The Wildcats drove in another two runs off their third home run of the game in the eighth inning, while the Bruin bats continued to run cold in what would eventually be an 11-2 loss.
Top Performances
Noah Meffert led the Bruins with the bat, finishing 3-4 on the day with an RBI double.
Ty Davis ended the day 1-3 with a run, while
Isaac Snyder,
Jeremy Sangalang and
Mason Eastman also finished the day with a base hit. On the mound,
Spencer Johnson struck out two batters and allowed no hits in his inning pitched.
What It Means
The Bruins fall to 18-15 (8-10 NWC) on the year, while Linfield now sits at 16-15 (9-8 NWC).
What Comes Next
The Bruins will look to regain momentum when they travel to Salem, Ore. for their next NWC series this weekend against the Willamette Bearcats, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
