MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – The George Fox softball team was defeated in both games of their doubleheader against one of the top teams in the No. 2 Linfield Wildcats, losing the first, 2-11, and the second 2-7.
How It Happened – Game One
In the top of first, the Bruins started out strong when
Kamryn Potter doubled to left center, before
Sharon Tomei homered to left center for a two run shot that gave Fox a 2-0 lead. Potter scored a run with Fox in the lead 2-0; the 2-0 advantage was the first time the Wildcats had trailed by two or more since a 3-5 deficit against Whitworth in March.
Unfortunately the Wildcats quickly stormed back to take control of the game, scoring five runs in the bottom half of first, three in the bottom of third, and another three in the bottom of fifth, making the score a 2-11 loss.
How It Happened – Game Two
Once again, the Bruins jumped out to an early lead, this time scattering two runs over the first two innings. The top of the first inning was strong when
Makayla Noone advanced to second, and then scored a run on an RBI single from
Tinley Taylor to put Fox up by one.
Fox extended their lead in the second when Noone tripled and scored on an error (her second de-facto inside the park homer of the season) in the top of second. Linfield caught up shortly after, making the score 2-2 in the bottom of second, but then made their way ahead of the Bruins when they scored another run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and four more in the bottom of the sixth inning — the score being 2-7. Though both squads finished the game with nine, the Bruins scattered 12 runners over the course of seven innings in the loss.
