CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- After dropping their first game of the Division III Championship, the George Fox STUNT rallied back in their closest game of the season, taking down No. 3 Muskingum, 10-8.
How It Happened
Fox fell in their first round matchup against three-time defending champion Alma that had not conceded a point in their entire conference schedule; though the Bruins suffered a similar fate in a 0-24 loss, the team turned their eyes toward a beatable opponent in No. 3 Muskingum.
The first quarter against the Fighting Muskies was one for the ages, with the Bruins securing all four points to grab an early lead. Though Muskingum tried to fight back with two points in the second, the Bruins had a 4-2 halftime advantage.
That lead stayed true over the course of the third quarter, with the two teams sharing a point on one routine and Fox taking two of the other three. The tight-knit period had the Bruins up 7-4 heading into the fourth and tasting a victory.
In the fourth quarter the two teams played tight, with the Muskies mounting a comeback by doubling their score, moving up to eight points. Fox stayed steady, though, scoring three points to counter and give them the narrow victory, 10-8.
What It Means
The Bruins stay alive in the STUNT Championship race while Muskingum is eliminated. Fox will have to win the remainder of their games — defeating Hiram and taking down Alma twice — to win the championship.
What Happens Next
Fox will face Hiram, who fell in the second round of the Championships to Alma, 0-24, in an elimination semifinal. If the Bruins take down the Terriers in their Sunday 8:00 a.m. game, they will face Alma in the Championship Game at 11:00 a.m.
