Inaugural STUNT Season Comes to a Close With Loss in Semifinals

4/28/2024 7:16:00 PM

CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- A successful inaugural season came to a close for the George Fox STUNT team at the Division III Championships on Sunday, with the Bruins falling in an elimination semifinal game to the Hiram Terriers, 7-15.

How It Happened
The Bruins hung around with the Terriers in the first quarter, with Fox managing one point to trail by just one entering the second. Hiram responded, though, putting up two points in the second quarter to take an early 4-1 lead.

Though the Bruins attempted to get back into the game in the third quarter, splitting a point and scoring two, they trailed by four, 3-7, going to the fourth. The Terriers put the game away with a masterful eight-point fourth period, with the Bruins battling valiantly and reaching four in the quarter.

The 7-15 loss eliminated Fox from the Championships, with Hiram advancing to the final against Alma. For the third time in three games, Alma blanked their opponent in a 24-0 win to take their fourth straight Division III STUNT Championship.

What It Means
The Bruins end their season with a 4-9 record, with most games against top NAIA and club teams. Hiram finishes their year with an 11-8 (7-3 Great Midwest) mark.

What Happens Next
With the NCAA voting to include STUNT as an emerging sport at the Division III level, the 2025 schedule will look different — with Fox potentially hosting a tournament as well as playing conference games. The Bruins will look to build off of an immensely successful inaugural year as they contend for the title in 2025.
