NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox Bruin softball team traveled back home to take on Pacific University. Taking both wins on Sunday, winning the first game 5-4 and the second 5-1.
How It Happened – Game One
After a rocky start, the Bruins were down early in the first inning, 0-1, as the Pacific Boxers scored on a wild pitch. After a scoreless second inning for both teams,
Kamryn Potter advanced to second and scored a run, tying the score 1-1 in the third inning.
After another quiet inning, the Boxers scored another three runs in the fifth inning, leaving the Bruins down, 1-4. Then, the Bruins came alive in the seventh inning when
Makayla Noone singled, advancing
Sami Stadtlander to second. From there, Potter singled to right field, allowing Stadlander to score, helping the Bruins out with a score of 2-4. Finally, with two outs,
Tinley Taylor stepped up with an RBI single, making the score 3-4. With a full count,
Nicole Campa hit a double off the outfield wall to score the game-winning runs as both Potter and Taylor made it in. Earning the Bruins the game one win, 5-4.
How It Happened – Game Two
Both teams started the first and second innings with zero runs. At the very end of the third inning,
Sami Stadtlander scored a run from second off of a double from Noone. Shortly after,
Kamryn Potter singled and advanced to second on the throw while
Makayla Noone scored, bumping the score 2-0.
Sharon Tomei stepped up with a single to left field, allowing Potter to score, giving Fox the lead at the end of the third inning, 3-0.
The Boxers tried to fight back, earning one run to bring the score to 3-1, but Fox stood firm to keep their place ahead. In the bottom of the fifth, both Potter and Sandifer singled. Both advanced one base on a wild pitch, allowing Potter to score, and the Bruins ended the inning up 4-1. In the bottom of the sixth,
Aliya Harmon extended the George Fox lead when she homered to center field, putting Fox up by four – 5-1.
Elise Wilkinson continued her success on the mound, shutting down Pacific's chance of a comeback with three straight ground outs, earning the win, 5-1.
Top Performances
Kamryn Potter had a total of four runs off of four hits, and drove in two RBIs; while
Makayla Noone had two runs for Fox and one RBI.
Nicole Campa had two hits, including the game winning double in the Bruins game one win.
Elise Wilkinson pitched a complete game, allowing only one run and five hits.
What It Means
The George Fox Bruins are now sitting at 13-9 (6-4 NWC), and the Boxers are 7-13 (3-6 NWC).
What Comes Next
George Fox will play the second half of their series with the Boxers later this week after Saturday's games were postponed due to rain. The game dates and times are still to be determined.
