NEWBERG, Ore. – In the first official action of the season, the George Fox Men's Soccer team used a four-goal first half to cruise to a 6-0 win against the visiting Warner Pacific Knights.
How It Happened
The Bruins saw three men score in the first half, with veteran
Connor Kong the one who got it going. Kong took a beautiful pass from
Harrison Emert and put it in low left, giving Fox a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game. Fox drew a foul in the 13th minute in the box, leaving
Kellin Aguiar with a penalty kick. The junior put in the shot to make the score 2-0, Bruins. Moments later, the Knights had an own goal, putting GFU ahead by three before the first 15 minutes of play. The blitz didn't stop there,
Taj Fadool put one in at the end of the 28th minute; the four-goal explosion featured eight shots, compared to just four for the Knights.
The Bruins added another goal in the early minutes of the second half, this one coming from Emert on an assist from Isaac Wilson. The Emert-Wilson duo would put another goal in seven minutes later, in the 64th minute — this time, Wilson put in a shot after a sweet pass from Emert to put the Bruins up emphatically, 6-0. After the sixth goal of the night for Fox, both teams slowed the pace down, and also took advantage of getting plenty of substitutions in the game to get valuable early season minutes. After the quiet back half of the second — which featured zero shots from the Knights as the Bruins defense put on a clinic — the Bruins wrapped up the first night of the season with a scorching 6-0 win.
