NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team started off their season on a high note this afternoon after shutting out Multnomah at home, 2-0. 

How It Happened
Fox started off strong in the first half, having four shots in the first 17 minutes, with one shot by Becca Kozak resulting in a goal. Her goal was a low center shot cruising past the left side of the keeper to give the Bruins an early lead. 

After the halftime break, Taylor Ho joined in on the action. Lindsey Kong sent a corner in from the right side of the field in the 47th minute , soaring to the top of the six yard box right in place for Ho to get a head on it to give Fox their second goal of the game. 

Multnomah kept on with their attack, even after the Bruins outshot them 15-9. With 31 seconds left in the second half Nanea Moke-Rabang dribbled to the left of defenders taking a shot and hitting the crossbar, but it was too little and too late. The Bruins took down the Lions 2-0 to begin the year with a win.

Top Performers
Becca Kozak and Taylor Ho both scored a goal in the first game of their senior season. Lindsey Kong, a freshman from Hawaii, came up big in her first collegiate game, playing the full 90 minutes and assisting a goal. 

Coach's Thoughts
"Great first win under our belt," Head Coach Laura Schott said, "Players were definitely doing what we've been asking them to do on the defensive side of the ball. In the attack at times it broke down, but we had a couple of nice goals and a few really good chances. Overall I'm really proud of this team and thought they performed well."

What It Means
George Fox opens their season with a win, giving them a 1-0 record. Multnomah takes the loss and goes home with a 1-1-1 record to begin the season.

What Happens Next
Fox competes on Friday, September 6 against Corban University in a home game match.
