Bruins On Fire Early in Second Straight Shutout Victory

NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox women's soccer team continued their stellar early season play with a strong team win over the Corban Warriors, 1-0.

How It Happened
The game opened in a fierce contest for possession, with both teams fighting to control the ball. Neither team was able to generate any real offensive momentum early, with just four shots coming in the first 17 minutes of play — none of which were on goal.

The Bruins, however, found their footing midway through the half, quickly taking control of the game and dominating the shot count for the remainder of the period. It was freshman Alia Villa who broke through for Fox, driving home a goal to the low center after a perfect cross from Alexis Breer. George Fox held onto the lead as the game headed into halftime, 1-0.

The Warriors offense gained momentum in the second half, outshooting the Bruins 6-0 for the period. However, Fox's backline was impenetrable, holding Corban scoreless to grind out a second straight home victory, 1-0.

Top Performers
Alia Villa led the way for the Bruins, netting her first goal of the season, while Alexis Breer finished with an assist. Bruin goalkeeper Emily Robey was flawless in the goal, saving all three shots on goal.

Coach's Thoughts
"Big win today," Said Head Coach Laura Schott, "It was really fun to watch the team manage a chaotic second half. Corban is a good team, and sometimes we weren't able to possess the ball as we would have liked to. To be able to manage that chaos defensively was important and a great step forward for us."

What It Means
The Bruins move to 2-0-0 on the season, while Corban falls to 2-1-1.

What Happens Next
The Bruins will look to continue this momentum when they head on the road for their matchup against Bushnell on September 11th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Eugene, Ore.
