Bruins Take Down Warriors With Two Goals in One Minute

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's soccer team won their fourth straight game to remain undefeated, using two goals in the 62nd minute to bury the Corban Warriors 2-0.

How It Happened
The Bruins applied pressure to the Warriors immediately, as Mason Ayles put a shot on goal just 40 seconds into the contest. GFU would rack up six corners and four shots in the half, but could not put any away. The Fox defense was stout, facing five shots (three on goal), and not allowing any to get through. The Bruins had a chance to score late in the half, getting a corner in the 42nd minute, but could not find the back of the net, and the half ended with the two sides deadlocked at zero. Both teams showed flashes of aggression and attacking moments.

Fox found that control in the second half, getting into a rhythm as a team while putting constant pressure on Corban. In the 61st minute, Talon Wagner sent a beautiful cross into the slashing Isaac Williams, who put it in to break the scoreless tie and give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Williams broke away again, this time drawing a penalty. Junior Elijah Soon took the PK for the Bruins, and put it in the back of the net, giving Fox their second goal in just 53 seconds. The Warriors would be unable to respond to the pair of goals, having a few chances towards the end of the half, but Killinahe Warren and the rest of the defense had several key clearances that kept the Warriors scoreless. After the 61st-minute explosion, the Bruins took the game, 2-0.

Top Performances
Isaac Williams scored the first goal of the game and also added another shot on goal as well. Elijah Soon scored on a penalty kick, and keeper Justin Huttinger had four saves.

Coach's Thoughts
"We certainly were not at our best this evening for the first 45 minutes, and Corban asked a number of questions of us in those moments, " Head Coach Paul Karver said. "We continue to have new guys step up in some of our most challenging moments, which is a credit to everyone's focus and acceptance of what they are being asked to do. Things won't be easier from here as we head into conference play, and we are excited to see where the belief of this group will take us."

What It Means
The Bruins are in the midst of a four-game winning streak and have opened the season 4-0 heading into conference play. This win marks the program's best start since the 2006 season where the Bruins started their season 4-0-1. With the loss, Corban falls to 1-3.

What Comes Next
The Bruins hit the road to open up Northwest Conference play in Spokane, Washington, against the Whitworth Pirates. The game is scheduled for a noon start time.
