Bruins Have Experience of a Lifetime Playing Against D-I Pilots

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The George Fox women's soccer team had a unique experience of a lifetime, playing at the historic Merlo Field against NCAA I opponent Portland, dropping the game, 0-7.

How It Happened
Right off the bat ,the Pilots started strongly, scoring their first goal in the sixth minute of the game on a header from Hailey Still. Four minutes later, Portland scored again, this time the ball was sent into the lower bottom right of the goal off of Ruby Settle's right foot. Three more goals gave the Pilots a 5-0 lead heading into the half.

During the second half, the Pilots scored two additional goals leading to their victory of 7-0 over Fox. However, the Bruins fought hard until the last minutes of the game. Fox had two shots and seven saves in the game and walked away from the match with their heads high. This was a memorable opportunity to play against a team that consistently makes D-I nationals, including a sweet 16 appearance in 2022. The Bruins also saw every available field player make an appearance, giving everyone the experience of playing on Merlo.

Top Performers
Senior Trinity Carrington had the lone shot on goal for the Bruins. Tess Scott had an additional shot and Emily Robey had six saves against the Pilots.

Coach's Comments
"I'd like to thank UP for hosting us," Head Coach Laura Schott said. "It was a once in a lifetime experience for our group to play on storied Merlo Field against one the country's best D-1 teams. I'm already enjoying listening to the player talk about the experience and how it stretched them and helped them learn."

What It Means
The Bruins return home with a loss and now have a record of 3-1 heading into the rest of the conference season. The Portland Pilots improve their record of 5-2-2.

What Comes Next
Fox will be taking on their first NCAA D-III opponent of the season against Whitworth this upcoming weekend in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday, September 21st. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
