SPOKANE, Wash. – The George Fox volleyball team lost to the Whitworth Pirates in Spokane, losing in three sets in their second game of NWC play.
How It Happened
The Pirates jumped all over Fox in the first set, taking an early 7-3 lead and not looking back. Fox fought to bring it back to within four, 10-6, before Whitworth went on a backbreaking 10-1 run that took their lead to 20-7. Fox managed to squeeze out three more points before Whitworth ended the set, with a 25-11.
The second set started much closer for the Bruins, with each team trading points until 3-3, but Whitworth went on a similar run to the first set, eventually taking a 20-10 lead. Fox would lose the set, 25-11.
At the brink of being swept, George Fox started the third set with a similarly close start, leading to the game being tied at four points each. The Pirates once again went on an early run, taking a 10-4 lead. Fox would go on to drop the set, 25-14 – and therefore the game in three sets, 3-0.
