Moore Reaches Singles Finals As Bruins Start Fall Season Strong

9/22/2024 7:20:00 PM

NEWBERG, Ore. -- George Fox wrapped up ITA Northwest Regionals on Sunday with a successful start to the fall season.

How it Happened
Zach Moore kicked off the day in singles play, advancing to the Main Draw finals after taking down Linfield senior Seth Lee in the semifinals. Moore battled hard in the match, fighting his way to a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory.

In the final, Moore took the first set against Whitman's Cameron Yang, winning it with the score of 6-2. Yang took the next two sets to earn medalist honors, winning the final match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Moore's run was impressive, as he started the tournament as the 11th seed, upsetting his conference opponents on his way to the final.

On the doubles side, Lars Schmassman and Ikuho Ebisu took on Whitman's Alexander Stage and Noah Baker. The Fox duo put up a good fight, but dropped the match 8-6 to end their run in the semifinals.

What it Means
During the tournament, the Bruins saw two doubles pairs and three single players reach the quarterfinals in a stacked Northwest Conference field. This feat alone gives the Bruins a good platform to build their season on.

Coach's Thoughts
"The team showcased impressive talent at the NWC ITA Tournament this weekend, with three singles players making deep runs - including Zach finishing as the runner-up, and a doubles team making the semifinals. We're excited about the potential of our newly built team, but we know it will take hard work to fully realize it." - Head Coach Mitchell Miyashiro.

What Happens Next
The Bruins cap off their fall season by hosting the PNW Invitational on November 2-3.
