Bruins Net Two Goals in First Conference Win of Season

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Becca Kozak and Liv Haima each scored in the George Fox women's soccer game against the Pacific Boxers, as GFU picked their first NWC win, 2-0.

How It Happened
George Fox nearly doubled the number of shots that the Boxers took in the contest, getting off 14 compared to Pacific's six. Those shots started early for Fox, and in the twelfth minute, Willa Evans fed senior Becca Kozak to open up the game early, 1-0. Pacific dominated possession for the next seven minutes but was unable to get a shot off against the Bruins' defense. The Bruins then continued applying pressure to Pacific, as Tayler Ho had a shot that was blocked, Alexis Breer put another shot on goal, and Kozak took another as well, all before the 25th-minute mark in the half. The Boxers' offense managed to put three shots on goal in the first half, but all were saved by Bruins' keeper Emily Robey. At the end of the first half, the Bruins had four shots on goal and eight total, and led the Boxers, 1-0.

Neither team could generate much offense in the opening minutes of the second half, with the first shot not being taken until the 55th minute – coming from the foot of Alexis Breer. The game settled into a defensive slug fest for much of the half, until the 77th minute when Liv Haima put the ball into the top right of the net to expand the Bruins' lead to two. Fox's defense locked down the Boxers the rest of the way, not allowing a single shot, and holding onto the 2-0 shutout to round out the first conference win for the Bruins.

Top Performances
Becca Kozak took her team-leading goal count to three on the season with a first-half score, and Liv Haima scored her first goal of the season. Emily Robey had four saves.

Coach's Thoughts
"Today we had our most complete game so far," Said Head Coach Laura Schott. "I'm proud of the players and what they created today."

What It Means
The Bruins improved to 4-2-1 (1-1-1 NWC), and the Boxers are now 1-5-3 (0-3-1 NWC).

What Comes Next
The Bruins round out the weekend on the road against the Willamette Bearcats in Salem, Ore. Kickoff is at 2:45 pm.
