PORTLAND, Ore. -- The George Fox women's basketball team showcased their offensive depth in a commanding road win over the Lewis and Clark Pioneers, 70-58.
How It HappenedÂ
It took
Alyssa Wells just 57 seconds to open the scoring for George Fox with a triple, immediately setting the tone for the game. This was the start of a six-point run for the Bruins, giving them a solid lead to build on during the remainder of the period. Fox was lethal offensively, shooting 11-18 from the floor, with seven different players putting points on the board.
Tara Ushiro and
Sophia Hardy closed out the quarter with a four point run, giving Fox a healthy lead, 24-12.
The Bruins continued to outpace the Pios in the second quarter, going 2-3 from beyond the arc on their way to a 20-point period. The two teams did trade buckets back and forth in the early stages of the quarter, before Fox went on a seven point run on the back of two layups by
Alexa Borter, one from
Claire Hinds and a free throw by
Bella Arrisgado. Arrisgado would round out the period for the Bruins with her first three pointer of the night — putting Fox well ahead going into the half, 44-26.Â
The Bruins kept their foot on the gas in the second half, exploding out of the gate with a five point run to extend their lead.
Mia Skoro caught fire — dropping a jumper, free throw, triple and layup all within the span of a minute; putting the Bruins 24 points clear. The Pios did fight back towards the end of the period, going on two separate five point runs to narrow the gap to 15 points headed into the final quarter.
Lewis and Clark continued their comeback efforts in the last period, going shot for shot with Fox for the entire quarter. The Bruins remained in control of the score, however, largely thanks to sophomore
Hanne Hopkins — who dominated the period with six of Fox's 10 points.
Alexa Borter and
Tara Ushiro both contributed layups to round out their solid offensive performances, and the Bruins eventually clinched the win, 70-58.
