NEWBERG, Ore. – In a hard-fought, back-and-forth match, the George Fox men's soccer team fell to Puget Sound, 3-2.
How It Happened
Puget Sound struck early, scoring their first goal within the first 15 seconds of the match for an early 1-0 lead. The Bruins weren't deterred, quickly evening the score with a goal tapped past the Logger goalkeeper in the 20th minute by
Isaac Williams.
Carson Tapia also attempted a shot in the 27th minute but was unable to find the back of the net. Minutes later, he was granted a second attempt — which he took full advantage of. The freshman sent the ball careening into the lower left corner of the goal to raise the score to 2-1 in favor of the Bruins.
Patrick O'Brien recorded two saves throughout the half to hold the Loggers at one goal, and the Bruins took a 2-1 lead into the second half.
Puget Sound was able to even the score, 2-2, in the 68th minute with a shot that found the lower left corner of the net.
Carson Tapia took three back-to-back shots in an attempt to even the score once again but instead found the hands of the Puget Sound goalkeeper. Eight minutes later, Rhys Foote found the back of the net for another Logger goal to put the Bruins behind, 3-2.
Williams attempted a last-minute goal bound header but just missed over the woodwork, closing out the shot attempts for the Bruins. The remaining time was a scramble for control, with George Fox desperately trying to catch up, while Puget Sound tried to keep the Bruins as far away from the goal as possible to maintain their close lead. At the final buzzer, the score remained 3-2 in favor of the Loggers.
