NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox men's soccer team couldn't close the gap against Pacific Lutheran, resulting in a 5-1 loss.
How It Happened
George Fox came out hot on offense, with
Isaac Williams creating an opportunity just 24 seconds into the match with a shot, but the senior was unable to create an early lead for the Bruins. Despite the early aggression from the Bruins, the Lutes managed to claim the first goal of the game six minutes into the period. Pacific Lutheran wasn't satisfied, scoring two more goals just three minutes apart, raising the score to 3-0 by the 21st minute. Unrelenting, the Lutes struck again in the 26th minute, widening the gap to 4-0.
Carson Tapia attempted to retaliate before the halftime buzzer, but was blocked by Pacific Lutheran defenders. Tapia then started off the second half right where he left off, registering a shot on goal.
Alec Buongervino took a shot just twenty seconds later to put pressure on the Pacific Lutheran defense but was blocked.
Luke Lidington,
Eugene Peltier and
Reiker Swenson all tried to find opportunities, but none could get the Bruins on the board.
It was
Andrew Everett who, in the 70th minute, finally put the Bruins on the board with a shot in the top right corner of the Lute goal. This raised the score to 4-1. The decreased deficit didn't last for long. Just eight minutes later, the Lutes scored another goal, raising the score to 5-1 in their favor, a score that would stay until the final horn sounded.
