NEWBERG, Ore. – A lone Whitworth goal proved decisive as the George Fox men's soccer team dropped the match, 1-0.
How It Happened
Whitworth's defense didn't allow the Bruins to take a shot until the 16th minute;
Eugene Peltier took advantage of the opportunity, producing a competitive shot to the lower left corner of the goal, but Whitworth's goalkeeper was there to make the save.
Kellin Aguiar attempted a shot of his own, but the score remained 0–0. Undeterred, Aguiar struck again in the 26th minute but was blocked by the Pirate defense.
Carson Tapia took the final shot of the half for the Bruins but couldn't raise the score in their favor. Throughout the half,
Chase Nelson collected two saves to keep Whitworth within range, with the score still even at 0–0.
Whitworth came out swinging in the second half, taking an early shot just two minutes into the period. Despite the early opening, the shot was wide and to the right of the goalpost. Peltier retaliated, sending another blazing shot into the upper right corner of the Pirate goal, but the keeper was there for the save.
In a squabble for control, Whitworth player Johny Cortez was able to send a curving shot around defenders and just inside the right goalpost to find the back of the net. This raised the score to 1–0 in favor of the Pirates.
Quincy Walker found a final opening for the Bruins in the midst of Pirate defenders but fired high, just over the top of the crossbar. Despite a determined effort, George Fox came up short, falling 1–0 to Whitworth.
