NEWBERG, Ore. – The George Fox women's soccer team tied with Whitworth, 0-0, despite an impressive effort from the Bruin offense to break the deadlock.
How It Happened
Isabelle Carrington started the Bruins off with an aggressive shot in the first two minutes of the half but was unable to secure an early lead for the Bruins.
Grace Bach also attempted a shot for George Fox on a breakaway, just missing high. In what would be a theme for Fox,
Marisa Lam was there to collect the save on the Pirate's first shot of the day.
Alexis Breer attempted a well-placed shot in the lower left corner of the goal, but the Whitworth goalkeeper was there to make the save. In the 30th minute,
Rylee Galyon joined the action and attempted a shot of her own for the Bruins but was unable to find the back of the net.
Morgan Phalen took a shot in the 39th minute and combined forces with
Alia Villa for back-to-back shots just three minutes later, putting pressure on the Pirate defense. Despite a zealous first half for the Bruin offense—Fox outshooting the Pirates 7–2—George Fox was unable to tip the score in their favor before the end of the period.
The Whitworth defense proved to be more challenging for the Bruins in the second half.
Liv Haima was able to find the first opening in the 65th minute, but the score remained 0–0.
Makena Speer took a competitive shot of her own just minutes later, but to no avail. Lam recorded a save on a competitive Pirate shot in the 87th minute, keeping the score even and giving the Bruins a final chance to secure the win.
Despite the offensive effort, George Fox was unable to break the deadlock before the final buzzer, resulting in a 0–0 tie with Whitworth.
