Lam Stands Strong to Give Bruins 0-0 Finish

NEWBERG, Ore. -- A stellar performance from goalkeeper Marisa Lam and the entire George Fox women's soccer defense held Whitman to a 0-0 tie, allowing the Bruins to add another point to the standings.

How It Happened
Marisa Lam set the precedent for George Fox early in the game. The Blues managed to attempt a shot within the first five minutes of the half, but the freshman was there to shut down the effort and collect the save. Despite being peppered with numerous shots from the Blues throughout the half, Lam remained steady for her team, collecting eight saves to keep Whitman in control and maintain a scoreless tie at halftime.

Lam continued to dominate on defense into the second half. As the Blues worked their way up to a whopping 20 shots compared to just two from Fox all game, Lam proved to be a wall, not allowing a single ball between the posts. Tess Scott revived the Bruin offense, recording the first shot of the day for George Fox. Despite the competitive attempt on the lower middle of the goal from Scott, the score remained unchanged.

The Blues infiltrated the Bruin penalty box, attempting a header into the upper middle of the goal. Lam, who was out of position following an earlier save, came leaping from the left post, showcasing stellar instincts and reflexes to block the attempt. Minutes later, Whitman was awarded a free kick due to a Bruin foul in the 86th minute. Unwavering, Lam leapt to block the blazing goal-bound strike, which was on target for the lower-left corner of the net, saving her team from a last-minute deficit.

Despite being outshot by the Blues, 20-2, the Bruins had the final word of the game. Maci Bowman attempted a final shot for George Fox to close it out, but couldn't break the deadlock. The Bruins added another tie to their record, keeping the Blues scoreless to earn another point.
