FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The George Fox men's basketball team dominated Northwest Indian College, 97-68, picking up their first win in an impressive display of offensive power.
How It Happened
Luke Tobin scored the first two points of the day for the Bruins with a layup in the first 30 seconds of the game. This was followed by a free-throw opportunity for freshman
Sydney Natche, who made the first but missed the second—only to get his own rebound and make a layup, stealing three points from the situation.
Dre Lawrence went in for a layup, putting the Bruins on top by seven to start the game.
The Eagles were able to take some points back, but layups by Natche and
Jake Centner kept the Bruins' nose in front.
Trey McDonald III was on a roll, scoring four consecutive points with free throws and a jump shot, 17–15, to kick George Fox back into gear. Natche followed up with two more points to secure the lead, only for the Eagles to tie it up again at 19–19. After some back-and-forth, the game was tied once more at 25–25.
The Eagles were able to pull ahead, but George Fox quickly regained ground with a layup by Tobin and three-pointers by Lawrence and
Nico Cervantes. Natche made three more baskets before the end of the half, followed by a
Noah Marte fast break bucket to close out the first period with Fox in front, 41-39.
The Bruin offense came out explosive in the second period. Natche immediately found a fast-break opportunity and capitalized on it before Tobin found the same opportunity shortly after, canning a triple of his own. Natche ended the run he started with another layup, putting the Bruins on top, 50–39, early in the second half.
The Eagles were able to take some points back, but the Bruins were quick to halt their offensive momentum. Lawrence made a layup, followed by a dunk from
Vanndon Heard. Tobin landed another shot after a furious 13-0 run, putting the Bruins up by 20, 68–48.
George Fox maintained their lead for the remainder of the game with the help of three-point shooting from Lawrence, Marte,
Anthony Williams, and
Matthew Sitler, who closed out the game by draining a three in the last thirty seconds of play. The Bruins exited the court victorious, taking control after the first half and dominating on offense in their first win of the season, 97-68.
