NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox women's basketball team played against the Seattle Pacific Falcons, starting out strong against the Division II team, but losing in a 69-50 game.
How It Happened
The Falcons took the first point of the contest but Fox tied the score 2-2 when
Hanne Hopkins made a smooth layup. The Bruins were then able to get ahead with a banked-in three-pointer by
Sophia Hardy, climbing ahead of Seattle Pacific by one point.Â
Mia Skoro helped Fox jump even farther ahead of the Falcons with an and-one layup, followed by another a solid layup, bumping the score up 8-12. But with a minute remaining in the first quarter, the Falcons ended the quarter on a run, taking a 20-17 lead to end the first period.
In the second quarter, the Bruins seemed to get stuck, as Seattle Pacific shot ahead in points. While
Paige Macduff made a layup, cutting the deficit to 23-19, the Bruins failed to score for the next four minutes while the Falcons embarked on a nine-point run. Hardy managed to pull in a quick three-pointer to snap the streak and Skoro nailed a layup, but Fox was still behind at half, 42-27.
Fox struggled again to gain control of the ball in the third period. After a Macduff layup, the Bruins failed to make a field goal for the next four minutes as they tried to crack the Falcon zone. Skoro nailed four free throws during that time, but the Bruins trailed at the end of the third, 58-39.
Finally, the final quarter started similarly as the Falcons kept a strong lead. While the game was never in doubt,
Bella Arrisgado and Kylie RItter each knocked down triples. Eventually, the game came to an end as
Sophie Carbajal made the final jumper of the day in the final seconds of a 69-50 loss for the Bruins against the Division II team.
