Bruins End Calendar Year With Loss to Pipers

NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's basketball team played against the Hamline Pipers to round out the calendar year, ending up with an unfortunate 80-53 loss.

How It Happened
The first half started out tough for the Bruins, as they fell behind quickly — it took seven minutes for the Bruins to score a bucket, falling down 12-0 before a layup by Sydney Nache. Three minutes later, Jake Centner knocked in a free throw, but Fox was already down by 17, 22-3.

With five minutes remaining, Noah Marte made the first three-pointer of the game for Fox on an assist from Donovan Cooks making the score 34-10. Then, Anthony Williams made a clean layup, counting and Cooks made two free-throws following; at the half, though, it was all Pipers, 42-14.

Despite the deficit, Fox started the second half with more energy and continued to fight hard. Dre Lawrence made a layup to start a back-and-forth section of the game., keeping each other on their toes. Luke Tobin got in on the action with a tip-in, while Corey Schramm contributed a big block.

Tobin stayed hot with a layup and two consecutive free-throws, as the Bruins crept within 20 for the first time since the first half. Though Williams was able to make a clean and-one jumper and Lawrence canned a triple, Hamline's efficient offense put the Pipers ahead by 28..

Williams had the final field goal of the day on a steal and fastbreak layup, before Tobin made a free throw, finishing the score with an 80-53 loss.
