NEWBERG, Ore. -- The George Fox men's basketball team played against the Hamline Pipers to round out the calendar year, ending up with an unfortunate 80-53 loss.
How It Happened
The first half started out tough for the Bruins, as they fell behind quickly — it took seven minutes for the Bruins to score a bucket, falling down 12-0 before a layup by Sydney Nache. Three minutes later,
Jake Centner knocked in a free throw, but Fox was already down by 17, 22-3.
With five minutes remaining,
Noah Marte made the first three-pointer of the game for Fox on an assist from
Donovan Cooks making the score 34-10. Then,
Anthony Williams made a clean layup, counting and Cooks made two free-throws following; at the half, though, it was all Pipers, 42-14.
Despite the deficit, Fox started the second half with more energy and continued to fight hard.
Dre Lawrence made a layup to start a back-and-forth section of the game., keeping each other on their toes.
Luke Tobin got in on the action with a tip-in, while Corey Schramm contributed a big block.
Tobin stayed hot with a layup and two consecutive free-throws, as the Bruins crept within 20 for the first time since the first half. Though Williams was able to make a clean and-one jumper and Lawrence canned a triple, Hamline's efficient offense put the Pipers ahead by 28..Â
Williams had the final field goal of the day on a steal and fastbreak layup, before Tobin made a free throw, finishing the score with an 80-53 loss.
Top Performances
Donovan Cooks led the team with a total of 12 points, while
Luke Tobin and
Anthony Williams had ended with nine points each.
Dre Lawrence was next up eight points overall, while
Noah Marte knocked in both of his triples. Corey Schramm led the team with eight rebounds and two blocks.
What It Means
Hamline rises to 9-2, while the Bruins fall to 1-9 (0-1 NWC).Â
What Happens Next
After the calendar rolls to 2026, the Bruins will travel to Tacoma, Wash. to play against the Pacific Lutheran Lutes on Friday, January 2. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm.
